The intent of this field trip experience is to create a powerful experiential learning opportunity for each student. By opting to take advantage of the opportunity to join the herd, you will be accepting the responsibility to support the teachers and World Strides Course Leaders in making this experience safe, meaningful, educational, and enjoyable for every student. It is imperative that chaperones act in the manner outlined below in order to assure students’ safety and good conduct.
CHAPERONE RESPONSIBILITIES
TRAVEL
- Keep groups together, safe, and quiet at airports. Please no students wandering on their own without a chaperone. The students are told they will receive a strike for being without a chaperone.
- Follow airline directions regarding seating. Everyone sits in seats assigned by the airline.
- After takeoff, when the plane is in the air and the seatbelt sign is off, teachers will aid students in making seating switches.
- Help students when they have a need while in flight. Students should not use a flight attendant call button.
HOTEL
On Check in
- We are checking into 40 rooms!
- Be patient at check-in time. Except for those helping to unload luggage, please remain on the bus until your room key and that of the students for whom you are the night chaperon are brought to you on the bus.
- Just as a heads-up - waiting for an elevator may take time.
- Ensure students are calm, quiet, and ready to drift off to sleep at Lights Out time.
- At bedtime, be sure to take a key to your student room before Lights Out.
- Assure that students are up with the wakeup call and to breakfast on time.
- See that students are properly dressed in layers and ready to depart promptly each day.
- Provide special assistance at meal times. Check that students are eating balanced meals.
- Check student rooms before departure from hotel, making sure that nothing is left behind.
- Hotel-related problems should be relayed to the front desk.
BUSES
Bus Seating for adults
- Front seats are reserved for tour guides and teachers. Teachers will be seated in the front seat in order to coordinate with the tour director and bus driver.
- Please be sure that chaperones are seated throughout the bus, spread out from front to back.
- Adults who suffer from motion sickness should bring adequate medications to assure they can sit anywhere on the bus.
Bus Responsibilities for adults
- Assist in maintaining courteous, attentive behavior on the bus.
- Make sure students are listening when tour guide is speaking/electronic items are never allowed on the bus.
- Help students to remember to travel safely.
- Assure that students are not in the aisles and remain in seats facing forward at all times.
TOURING
- Stay with the group at all times and assist the Course Leader throughout the day.
- Keep the entire group together. The group moves fast the first two days on city streets. Please be sure that your group, and all students, are keeping up with the tour guide. The more we stay together, the more we get to experience.
- Please aid the students in maintaining respectful behavior and focusing on the speaker.
